Heanon Wilkins, Miami University’s first Black tenure-track faculty member, joined the department of Spanish and Portuguese in 1968. Until his retirement in 1992, he was also director of the Educational Opportunity Office (1969-1971) and director of the Black World Studies program (1987-1990).
