On Saturday, April 27, 2019, the Miami Chapter of Delta Upsilon celebrated their annual Dad’s Weekend and, with Phi Mu, hosted the Spring Puddle Pull philanthropy. Both of these events have been traditions for Delta Upsilon since the first half of the 20th century, with Delta Upsilon being credited with having a Miami fraternity’s first Dad’s Dad in February 1922 and Puddle Pull starting in May 1949.
This year’s Dad’s Weekend was planned by Matt Lipaj ’21 and began Friday night as the dads arrived at Corner Grill and Drinkery (formerly Smokin’ Ox). Despite the threat of weather, the next morning began with dads and sons heading to either Indian Ridge Golf Club or the new Mayday Gun Range the enjoy the respective sports.
Saturday afternoon featured Puddle Pull, a unique seated variation of tug-of-war, with several other Greek organizations attending. And for the fraternity’s newest members and their fathers, it was an opportunity to experience a bit of our history. This year’s winner was Alpha Delta Pi.
For dinner, everyone was treated to a barbecue dinner supplied by Meatson’s BBQ, which is owned by Delta Upsilon alumnus Chris Mattson ’16.
